The 1958

Some things are worth fighting for...

Statement on future ownership

Feb 17, 2023

We are not naive or pragmatic enough to know footballs moved on and we can’t influence who owns our club these days.

We don’t release clout chasing statements with unrealistic demands.

We don’t try and influence and affect anything beyond what we can control.

We don’t betray our values, and integrity and deep love we have for our club passed down from generations in the 58. This is very much personal to us.

We are modern, forward thinking, working class lads and have tried to bring some dignity, integrity, unity, respectability and sense of pride back to our club and fanbase. We cannot be bought because love always beats greed.

Our aim has always been to do things differently and be relentless in our efforts to remove this horrible family from every foundation of our club.

We are not customers.

We are not legacy fans.

We are not expendable.

We are the beating heart of this club along with every other supporter who stood alongside us and who stood before we came along. We are all the lifeblood, passion, moral compass and fibre of our club, traditions and history. It’s always been this way. About friendships, community, family and memories.

A number of questions will be raised about the morals and ethics of any prospective incoming regime.

While these are legitimate concerns for many of us and cannot be taken lightly the initial battle has been to safeguard what is ours and ensure that there was a club left behind for everyone to enjoy once the Glazer family were removed.

Save our club before we don’t have a club to save, remember?

The Glazers need to go first and foremost and we will assess any new owners with a clean slate despite 17 years of being owned by a family who have virtually brought our club to its knees. Its important we scrutinise any ownerships but equally as important we don’t allow Glazer greed to taint our future.

Many in the media (mainstream and social) have been complicit in helping this family stay for so long. You haven’t done the right things by the club, the fanbase nor your own conscience. Believe us when we say, we know who you are and we won’t forget.

Its a unique position The 1958 are in, we don’t care about position, clout or anything else. We do right by ourselves, our families memories and anyone who supports our club. There are still good people with values in this world.

We had a plan and a strategy. You believed in us, we believed in you. All on the right side of history.

We will be following developments closely.

For you, for us, for each other.
